France in Summer: A Heatwave on Repeat
Toulouse, Montpellier, Marseille, Perpignan — southern French cities regularly hit 38-42°C in summer. No sea breeze, limited air conditioning in many rentals, and tropical nights above 25°C that make sleep impossible.
The result: anyone within driving distance of the Spanish border starts looking south. And what they find is 10 degrees cooler, half the price, and a fraction of the crowds.
The Costa Dorada: Same Sun, Better Temperature
The Costa Dorada’s Mediterranean breeze keeps coastal temperatures between 27 and 32°C, even in peak summer. Cubelles, a quiet Catalan village 45 minutes south of Barcelona, has become a favourite for heat refugees from southern France — and increasingly from the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK.
