Why It’s Called the “Golden Coast”
The name says it all: long stretches of golden sand between Sitges and the Ebro Delta. Unlike the Costa Brava (rocky, narrow coves) or overcrowded resort beaches, the Costa Dorada offers wide, accessible and surprisingly uncrowded beaches, even in peak season.
The Beaches to Know
Cubelles Beach
The local favourite. Fine sand, clear water, a chiringuito or two for a cold drink. Never packed, even in August. Walkable or a 5-10 min drive from Hotel Mas Trader. Great for families.
Sitges Beaches (20 min from Cubelles)
Sitges has 17 beaches. Platja de la Bassa Rodona is the most central, Platja dels Balmins the most intimate. Crystal-clear water and a gorgeous village behind.
Playa Larga, Tarragona (30 min)
A long strip of golden sand backed by pine forest. Calm atmosphere, shallow water — perfect for children.
Cala Morisca, Garraf (25 min)
For the adventurous: a wild cove tucked between Garraf Natural Park’s cliffs. No facilities, no crowds, just sea and rock.
Platja de Calafell (15 min)
The ultimate family beach. Fine sand, calm shallow water, children’s play area and a seafront promenade with restaurants. Blue Flag every year.
